How To Search
This page allows you to search company cars using taxation-related criteria rather than vehicle specifications such as fuel type, body style or manufacturer.
Start by selecting the tax measure you want to use from the Search By list, then enter the minimum and maximum values required before clicking Search Company Cars.
You can search using:
- Annual Company Car Benefit (BIK)
- Annual Company Car Tax
- CO2 Output
- P11D Value
- Taxable Percentage Of List Price
If you select Annual Company Car Tax, additional options allow you to choose your place of tax residence and the income tax rate used in the calculation.
This is particularly important for users in Scotland because Scottish income tax rates differ from those used in the rest of the UK.
The explanation panel displayed below the search criteria provides additional guidance on how each search method works and which values are being searched.
Search results depend on the availability of vehicle and taxation data.
Choosing The Right Search Method
Different users may prefer to start their company car search using different taxation measures.
-
Annual Company Car Benefit (BIK) is useful if you want to compare the taxable value of different company cars before considering your personal tax position.
-
Annual Company Car Tax is useful if you want to compare the amount of company car tax payable by the driver based on a selected tax rate.
-
CO2 Output is useful if you want to compare vehicles according to their emissions, which often influence the taxable percentage.
-
P11D Value is useful if you want to compare vehicles based on their taxable list price.
-
Taxable Percentage Of List Price is useful if you want to compare vehicles according to the percentage used when calculating company car benefit.
There is no single correct way to search for a company car. Some users start with the expected company car tax, while others prefer to compare taxable percentages, CO2 emissions or P11D values.
The search results display all of these key taxation measures together, allowing you to compare vehicles from several different perspectives.
Understanding P11D Values, Company Car Benefit (BIK) And Company Car Tax
Company car taxation involves several related values which are often confused with each other. Understanding how they work together can help you choose the most appropriate search method.
The P11D Value is the taxable list price of the vehicle. It is typically based on the manufacturer's published list price together with any taxable accessories and is used as the starting point for company car tax calculations.
The Taxable Percentage Of List Price, often referred to as the Benefit-In-Kind (BIK) Percentage, is determined by factors such as the vehicle's CO2 emissions, fuel type and, for some plug-in hybrid vehicles, electric driving range.
The Annual Company Car Benefit (BIK) is then calculated by applying the taxable percentage to the P11D value.
Finally, the Annual Company Car Tax paid by the employee depends on their personal income tax rate and is calculated using the company car benefit.
In simple terms:
- P11D Value × Taxable Percentage = Annual Company Car Benefit (BIK)
- Annual Company Car Benefit × Income Tax Rate = Annual Company Car Tax
For example, a vehicle with a P11D value of £50,000 and a taxable percentage of 10% would create an annual company car benefit of £5,000.
A basic rate taxpayer would typically pay less company car tax on that benefit than a higher rate taxpayer because the amount of tax payable depends on the employee's income tax rate.
Two vehicles may therefore have similar P11D values but very different company car tax liabilities if their taxable percentages differ.
Likewise, two employees driving the same company car may pay different amounts of company car tax if they are subject to different income tax rates.
This search page allows you to compare company cars using any of these key taxation measures, depending on which part of the calculation is most important to you.
