How The Electric Van And Plug-In Van Grant Works
The United Kingdom Office For Low Emission Vehicles provides grants for electric vans and plug-in or 'hybrid' vans which subsidise the manufacturer's List Price of the van when new.
The 'grant' reduces the manufacturer's List Price for the van according to set criteria. You can see the list of qualifying cars by clicking on the link.
What Are The Criteria?
The key criteria to be eligible for an electric van or plug-in hybrid van grant are:
- produce 50gCO2/km or less at the tailpipe
- have a minimum battery range of 60 miles (96km)
- the vehicle must have a minimum warranty of 3 years or 60,000 mile warranty, whichever is reached first
- the battery must be warranted for at least 70% of it's original capacity for 5 years or 100,000 mile warranty, whichever is reached first
You can read more about the full criteria for vans on the UK Government Website.
The grant is only available on new electric or plug-in hybrid vans purchased from a manufacturer's authorised dealer and is not available for 'used' vans or on private sales.
How Much Is The Grant?
The grant is currently divided into four classes; 'Small Vans', 'Large Vans', 'Small Trucks' and 'Large Trucks'.
-
Small Vans: Vans with less than 2,500kg gross weight - the grant is up to a maximum of 35% of the purchase price, subject to an overall maximum grant of £2,500.
-
Large Vans: Vans between 2,500kg and 4,250kg gross weight - the grant is up to a maximum of 35% of the purchase price, subject to an overall maximum grant of £5,000.
