Tax Disc Calculator
The Chancellor of the Exchequer has announced that the UK Budget will be on 26 November 2025.
And despite the higher number of electric cars on the road, the rate of the 'tax disc' (officially known as 'Vehicle Excise Duty' or even 'Road Fund Tax') is still just £10 for electric cars in the first year.
OK, the tax disc has increased to £195 for electric cars after the first year, with a surcharge of £425 for more 'expensive' cars (those with a list price of over £40,000 when registered new).
But is the general cost of the tax disc heading up in the November 2025 Budget, especially for electric cars?
Given the other pressures on the economy, we wouldn't be surprised if there's a 'reform' of the tax disc rates.
